The most common cause if this problem is a broken installation of Windows Media Player. Your player may run just fine, but still have broken parts that affect CDPass. To reinstall the Media Player, please download a fresh copy from:

http://www.microsoft.com/download/media

During the installation, you will be asked if you want to just "upgrade components" or "replace all". It is important that you choose the "replace all" option.
